Camp Cooking Fundamentals
The Foundations: Fire & Food course introduces essential firecraft and camp cooking skills in a field environment.
Designed for those new to outdoor living, this program focuses on building reliable fire in varied conditions and preparing simple, effective meals using minimal equipment.
Students will learn fire starting methods, fuel selection, fire maintenance, and foundational cooking techniques over an open flame. Instruction emphasizes heat control, efficiency, and safe fire management in real-world conditions.
All training is conducted in the field under realistic conditions. Students should expect a hands-on and engaging experience.
This course complements the Foundations: Bushcraft & Survival program and reinforces core field capability.

• Fire-based cooking systems (coal bed vs open flame)
• Heat control and temperature management
• Use of cast iron and minimal cooking equipment
• Meal preparation and food handling in the field
• Water boiling and sanitation practices
